Description
Application
Obstruction Lighting is intended to reduce the hazards to aircraft by indicating the presence of obstructions.
Fixed or mobile objects on superstructures should be marked when they are in certain positions which might cause a collision risk near airports or heliports that can be used at night.
Apart from the areas around an airport, it may be necessary to mark very high obstacles protruding into aircraft or helicopter traffic zones, i.e radio antenna, chimney stacks or high voltage lines.
Instructions concerning these requirements can be obtained from local airport authorites or navigation departments.
The minimum requirements for obstruction lighting are specified by ICAO in Annex 14 Volume I Paragraph 6.3
According to this requirements the protruding object must be marked using Low Intensity Obstruction Red Lights
